hi

to the person who wanted to connect himself online though his new
cable modem, but he couldn't see the net (wwww) -- sounds like you
need the domain name server addresses (to resolve domain nanes
"apple.com" to ip address)....

as for using a newer pci 10/100 card, it's a good idea. stick it any
PCI slot that's free on the mac in question. it's not like a PC where
you have to find the right pci slot,, they all work (if you have more
than one)....

you could use two ethernet cards, and use a router-software app (like
IP net router, or install OSC anduse its own built-in stuff), but i
prefer the ease and simplicity of a router box (mine is a macsense
xrouter pro) and it connects all my machines on my privately-assigned
ip-based LAN to my cable modem. all pcs, macs, unix boxen are happily
surfing...

good luck.
matx

ps. and to the person whose company forces to use the 5-digit password
everywhere. i suggest switching to somethign that's 6-8 characters, as
is the usual range. at my work we use a common 9-digit password.
