Does anyone know how to separate the top of a 540c powerbook from the bottom so as to replace the clock battery. I found these instructions on the internet (with pictures for the screen removal) and followed these directions also below, but could not get the top and bottom to separate, anyone have any ideas, thanks. P.S. BTW, this internet page no longer exists due to @home folding up.
INTERNET INSTRUCTIONS • Ground yourself via a static wrist strap. Make sure you don't zap those expensive parts with static electricity!!! • Open your PowerBook. Pay careful attention to remember where all the TORX screws go. Making a small diagram as you go is a good idea. • There are 8 TORX screws on the bottom of the PowerBook. Two of them are hidden under the little feet that raise the bottom of the case. • Once the TORX are removed, carefully lift the keyboard up. MAKE SURE YOU DON'T RIP THE RIBBON CONNECTOR!! Then, remove the TORX screw from the hard drive, and floppy drive. Separate the bottom of the case from the top (the part with the screen). Take notice of the plug that attaches the screen to the logic board. You'll have to make sure this is reattached. • Mr. Paul Goessling has helped with more detail of the screen removal. • Find the pram (backup) battery. It is located under the wrist rest. You will need a small standard screwdriver to pry up the little plastic piece. Once the plastic has been removed you will find your battery. • Carefully unplug the wires from the spot it's plugged into. Gently plug in the new battery and put your PowerBook back together in the reverse process. Take notice to ensure all connectors are still attached! This will save you from having to open the case again to attach loose wires or connectors. • Restart your Mac. Zap the pram. Reset your clock, date, map, etc. God Bless!
