This problem has happened to me with 0S9.1,9.2.1 on clam shell SE ibook. I was not able to find a solution, but the problem was only a 'visible' problem. By that I mean that if you looked in the file sharing control panel you see 8 asterisks, however when you connected to the drive and entered the 'real password' it worked. ?Have you tried entering the password to see if it works anyway.
