Hard disk manufacturers tend not to use the standard notion of a megabyte, which is 1024*1024 bytes, insted using their own notion, which is 1000*1000 bytes, inflating the size of the hard drive. And of course partioning and formatting will take away some of the raw, unformated space, too. Just look at MS-DOS/Windows, which manages to turn a 2 MB floppy into 1,44 MB. >P.S.
