continuing with the other poster's good advice...
I will say this: the router is 192.168.1.1 from inside you LAN this is the private IP, and other computers on your network are in the same range. but OUTSIDE the LAN the router has the public IP (whether it is dynamic or static) the router handles which services (via Port #) go to whichever computer that is accepting these service requests (a webserver listening to requests for web pages, for example). If your Mac running OS8.1 is serving up webpages and you tell the router that port 80 goes .101 (your 8,1 mac's IP) then from the outside looking in, you point your web browser to your public IP) to find out your public IP check your router's config page. :) matx > > What I don't understand is the IP address.
