As long as we're being nitpicky, neither description is quite correct. Cat 5
(4 pair) crossover cables have the orange and green wires switched.  Looking
with the 'tab' side down (i.e. the opposite side) from left to right:

Regular: Orange tip, Orange, Green tip, Blue, Blue tip, Green, Brown tip,
Brown

Crossover: Green tip, Green, Orange tip, Blue, Blue tip, Orange, Brown tip,
Brown

"Tip" refers to a white wire with XX color stripe.  If you are using Cat 3
(2 pair) cable then you probably only have Green & Orange wires, which are
all regular ethernet uses anyway.
