make sure you've got the most recent firmware update, and try resetting
the pram with techtool, it may be corrupt in some way.  re: the
networking problems, try trashing the sharing and network preferences
and of course the finder preferences in case they're corrupt, the finder
preferences in particular seem to get corrupted often and making it
rebuild the file fixes a surprising number of things.  it that doesn't
help i'd definitely suspect the pram battery, but easier and harmless to
try trashing the preferences first.  also trash the background pref's
and anything else that seems related, you can always leave the originals
in the trash in case you want to replace them.

Dude, your getting a dell, unless your a legally licensed gunsmith or
run some other business dell thinks has something to do with terrorism,
then dell will just cancel your order and not even inform you. 
federally licensed gunsmiths are clearly involved in terrorism, at least
according to dell.  i'd be happy to email the details.  this is knee
jerk stupidity, right up there with loyalty oaths, these people sell
guns to police amongst others, and are only too happy to report
suspicious people.
