1904 (and sometimes 2024 or 2054 -- I forget) is usually the result of an unhappy hard 
drive, not the PRAM battery, which is 1954 (Jobs' birthday).

At least run Disk First Aid, but better yet, use AlSofts's DiskWarrior and see if this 
helps. The other problems you mention could go away too. 

In the best case, this will fix it.

In a medium case, you might want to backup your data, reformat the HD and re-install a 
fresh system.

In a worst case, the HD is turning sour and will need to be replaced.
