This is really a regional and ISP thing. Check with other users of the ISPs to see what their reliability is. My brother's cable goes out at least once a week for a few hours. My home DSL has gone out exactly 3 unexpected times in 3 years (plus a few scheduled well notified in advance maintenance outages). One outage was fixed an hour later, the other two were a few days (one was a Verizon problem, one was the ISPs local POP was damaged in the 9/11 attacks) My work DSL never went down with my first ISP (year plus no outages), went down rarely with my 2nd (about a year, 2 outages right at the begining), went down ALL the time with my 3rd (two or three times a day), and never so far with my 4th (3 months, no outages). In all cases, the outages only once were due to Verizon problems (Hurricane Floyd flooded out the CO and killed most of the area's service), all other times were 100% ISP related issues. And my friend's cable hasn't had any outages in the year he has had it. -chris <http://www.mythtech.net> -- MacNetwork is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
