DSL is either SDSL (Synchronous Digital Subscriber Line) or ADSL (Asynchronous Digital Subscriber Line) ADSL is much more common.

Netsters,
What's the difference between DSL and ADSL? Will an ASDL
modem work for a DSL connection?
SDSL is SYMMETRICAL DSL and ADSL is ASYMMETRICAL DSL.
SDSL has symmetrical upload / download ie the same bit rate. ADSL has faster download than upload (I've never heard of it being the other way although I suppose it's possible).
DSL refers to all Digital Subscriber Line connections.
I don't think you can use an SDSL modem will work for ADSL. Most of the modems I've seen for SDSL are specific to SDSL.
