If I use an eMac as a base station, will I be able to get 3 other Macs on the network via ethernet (I know, I'll need a hub.)? Will they all be able to go online that way, even though it's dial-up (speed issues noted)? In other words, if my G4 is home, and my 7600 is next door (I'm pretty sure it's within range--still need to double-check.), can I use the 7600 to dial-up via the G4 & airport (no broadband available here in rural Iowa)? I don't want to keep the G4 dialed-up 24/7. Understand my question?
What are the pros/cons of using the eMac as an AirPort base station instead of a dedicated one?
I need a 3rd party Airport card for my 7600. Any recommendations/caveats? Ditto for my wife's blueberry iBook 300: which card should she use?

Dale, Let me see if I got this right - you want your eMac to be a "wireless router" for the 7600. Look at Sustainable Softworks IPNetRouter (see below) and then you'd have to setup the wireless cards to use the "Inter computer" mode of wireless (I think that's what's it's called). Might be fun to try to get it to work, but you'll pay more than finding the right h/w.
I use an Asante 3004LC, which is a 4 port Cable/DSL router with a modem backup capability, and a separate wireless access point (WAP) which uses one of the four ethernet ports. Before I got a DSL connection, I used the Asante router to share a couple of computers over a modem line. Unfortunately, Asante doesn't make the 3004C or LC anymore, and I don't know of any other home router that has a modem backup capability. Your biggest problem will be printing via AppleTalk because most non Apple WAPs or routers don't support AppleTalk over wireless. (For file sharing, tune on the AppleTalk over TCP/IP in either the Control Panel (File Sharing?) or OS X's System Preferences.) To solve the problem of printing over a wireless connection (I'm thinking of the 7600) you'll have to have a Mac running with Print Sharing turned on.
Before I got the Asante, I used an old Mac IIsi running Sustainable Softworks' IPNetRouter sofware <http://sustworks.com/site/prod.html>. The IIsi had a Ethernet card and the IPNetRouter ran as an application routing the other Macs through the modem. You can also do this with an old PC running Linux which has a built in router capability. IPNetRouter is a $100 for OS X and $40 for OS 7/8/9.
However, I still think the dedicated router with modem backup & a WAP is your best bet ($ wise). Look for an Asante 3004LC or 3004C (only these two models had the modem port) on eBay or other places. Should be able to pick one up for <$30 easy. I used to use a SMC 2655W WAP (11b) before I got a Netgear WR614 wireless router (which I use a WAP while still using the Asante as a router because of the modem backup). If you decide to get a SMC 2655W, get the version 2 model (one antenna instead of version one's two antennae) as it is web administered vs version one's PC only utility. The Netgear WR614 router can be had for $35 after rebates (check dealmac.com).
As for the 7600, if it's running OS X 10.2, then any Broadcom chipset PCI wlreless card will do. Apple's wireless hardware is based upon the Broadcom chipset. I'm running Belkin F5D700 (11g) PCI wireless cards in my desktop Macs which I got new from eBay auctions. Under OS 9, you're stuck with 11b; for more information, check out the DealMac.com forums, searching for "wireless".
Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any more questions.
