Below is a web site I want to visit, but it has problems. http://www.lovesolar.com/ I managed to contact them and was told that the site is written in Java 2. I suspect my browser IE 5.1 / OS 8.5.1 / Power PC Macintosh is NOT Java 2, BUT I DO NOT KNOW. So: 1. How do I find info to tell me what version of Java my browser is using?
Two version numbers you have to follow: The version number of the Java Run-time Library/Engine you're using, and the version of of the Sun Java (language) Virtual Machine (JVM) that the engine supports.
You may have two or more Java Engines. MRJ is Apple's and the others belong to the browser vendor.
For Apple's engine, look in System Folder:Extensions:MRJ Library. Do a get-info on the file "MRJLib".
IE, iCab, and Moz can all use MRJ.
MRJ 2.2.x is the newest JVM available for the classic Mac OS. It implements Sun's JDK 1.1.8 specification. MRJ 2.0 implemented JDK 1.1.3.
Mac OS X includes support for Java2, version 1.4.2.
FWIW, - Dan.
