Hi Larry

I've just been having a play with the LaserWriter and the Dayna box, and I tried your idea of power cycling. I got a result when I turned on the Dayna box then the LaserWriter afterwards. In Network Preferences it now says that Built in Ethernet is currently active. I used the Printer Setup Utility, and it has successfully connected to and set-up the LaserWriter Select 360.

I've tried printing a couple of pages, and it works great!

Now to try connecting a few old Localtalk Macs to the iMac!

Glad that worked out Tom. Power cycling the bridge is a good thing to remember. It may happen again that the LT network falls off, and unplugging/replugging the Dayna box may be necessary again.

The Dayna box is just a LocalTalk to Ethernet bridge. It becomes just another node on the LT chain.

You can connect your PhoneNet LocalTalk daisychain to the MiniDin8 port on one side of the Dayna box and the other side to your iMac and the whole network is bridged between LT and EN.

Filesharing between OSX and OS9 requires that all of the machines have IP addresses. If you try to fileshare between X and 9 and get a message something about fileserver unexpectedly closed down, it's an indicator that you need valid IP addresses for all of the machines.

I don't recall how to go about setting up TCP/IP over serial ports (which is what LocalTalk runs on). Maybe somebody else on the list can help you with that.
