I have a Mac SE (w/ Asante Ethernet card) running 6.0.8 that I'd like to network w/ a G4 running 10.3.9.

I've followed the directions of several online "how-tos" but I still get an error (something like "this server uses an incompatible version of the AFP protocol. please contact your network admin..."

Can it be done?

I was going to suggest trying netatalk <http://sourceforge.net/ project/shownotes.php?group_id=8642&release_id=328180> on your OS X box, but the release notes for the latest version state that netatalk only supports AFP over TCP on OS X.

I'm afraid your only option is to learn enough network programming to get netatalk 's AFP over Appletalk working on OS X.
