My Airport base station went kerflooey, so I replaced it with a D-Link.
Very nice router, easy configuration. However. I have two Macs, both of
which can see the internet, but can't connect to each other. I have all
the same configurations in the Mac Preferences as I did with the
Airport. It is baffling me.

I have a feeling there's something I'm overlooking. Thoughts?

If you are trying to connect via appletalk, does your router support appletalk? Not all do.

You forgot to mention which model d-link you bought, which version of the OS you are running on the computers, and how you are trying to connect.

Can the two computers ping each other?
