Lombard 10.1.5 Rage Pro Hack - Alternative Download Site Available
By Remy Davison, Insanely Great Mac
June 11th 2002

Your ticket to Rage bliss.

Following the report on xlr8yourmac regarding the hack for Lombard''s ATI Rage Pro LT
driver, I''ve posted a modified kernel extension file for Lombard. This is from my own
Lombard. For those of you who don''t want to mess with kernel extensions, it''s in the
Public folder on my iDisk. My handle is pb5300 (800K disk image).

It''s an 800K download (a disk image), and you''ll still have to login as root (click
''other'' user at login and type ''root'' then your password). You need to do this in
order to replace the original 10.1.5 file with the newly-modified one.

Disclaimer: Neither Insanely-Great Mac nor I warranty this hack. Use at your own risk.
Works for me and should work on your Lombard. Finally, QuickTime movies will play
full-screen like they''re supposed to. The Dock animations respond like they''re
supposed to as well.

Note also that this will not work on iMacs, iBooks or Wallstreets.

James Denton did create a page at mac.com with an installer which does the same thing,
but the page was swamped and is currently offline. Feel free to duplicate my hack to
your iDisk or webspace in case my iDisk gets too many hits as well (how many Lombards
out there?)

Why Apple has enabled the driver to load at startup is beyond us, although some nasty
bugs have surfaced (fortunately overcomeable). With the Lombard, don''t change the
screen resolution or the number of colors. Just be thankful it works at all.

I''ve not tried hacking the Wallstreet yet, but I''m game to try, despite the negative
reports so far at xlr8, with news of some kernel panics.

Still, for anyone still driving a Lombard, it''s like you just got the Pismo upgrade!
(well - sorta).
