OEM news: Quanta hit by slowing orders
By ron carlson, Insanely Great Mac
July 9th 2002

The effects of the growing IT slowdown trickle down to Asian manufacturers

Quanta likely won''t meet its internal shipment target this year because of reduced
orders from Apple and HP. In fact, the Digitimesreport that details this news states
the company''s sales will be lagely flat for the year -- 4.5 million units for this
year compared to 4.11 last year.

Brisk first quarter orders pushed Quanta revenues to an high of NT$34.4 billion (about
US$1 billion).

Analysis: This report merely fleshes out reports previously posted by Digitimes (see
links at the bottom of the article mentioned above). It will interesting to see if
Apple''s upcoming 17-inch flat-panel iMac will do anything to boost sales. Whatever
consumer device Apple announces alongside refreshed iMacs will have little influence
on sales of what the Mac hardcore really wants -- new towers.
