WiebeTech readies bus-powered storage for MWNY
By ron carlson, Insanely Great Mac
July 11th 2002
Wiebetech will release new additions to its Micro Storage Solution product line in New
York
WiebeTech will release a trio of new portable storage solutions: a fanless,
bus-powered desktop drive for 3.5-inch drives; a bus-powered FireWire DriveDock for
3.5-inch drives; and a wafer thin pocket drive available with either an Oxford
OXFW911-based or USB 2.0 interface. These new products will be on display at Booth 158
in New York''s Javits Convention Center from Wednesday July 17.
Early details:
UltraGB TM is a compact 3.5-inch drive enclosure that is fanless and bus powered.
UltraGB is similar to pocket drives because it allows users to attach an external,
high-performance FireWire storage device to their computer without attaching a wall
transformer, or "wall wort." However, unlike other pocket drives, UltraGB uses a full
size, high performance 3.5 inch drive.
NanoGB is a wafer-thin, pocket-size drive available with either a FireWire (IEEE
1394) or a USB 2.0 interface. NanoGB is less than a half inch thick, yet is available
in capacities up to 40GB and transfer rates of up to 35MB/sec.
Super DriveDock is a complete bus-powered FireWire bridge for 3.5-inch IDE hard
drives in a ultra-small enclosure. Super DriveDock allows users to attach full-size
IDE drives to most FireWire ports without attaching a "wall wort."
James Wiebe, CEO, WiebeTech said in a press release that, "These new products
represent a natural evolution of our existing product line. NanoGB is a sister
product to MicroGB -- our full featured multi-port pocket drive -- and has been
designed specifically for Mac enthusiasts, offering a single FireWire or USB 2.0 port,
total bus power, wafer-thin size, no power switch and screaming fast transfer rates.
Additional details, including pricing, for these products will be available on
Wednesday July 17 when the company formally releases them.
