QuickTime 6.0, QT Streaming Broadcaster 1.0 Released
By Remy Davison, Insanely Great Mac
July 15th 2002

Just in time for MWNY.

Apple has released the final version of QuickTime 6.0 , its much-delayed digital
audio/video software, which was held up due to MPEG-4 licensing disputes.

Previously available in a beta public preview version, QT 6.0 adds not only MPEG-4
support, but also integrates with Jaguar (OS X 10.2) interface elements and its Quartz
graphics engine. Audio improvements include AAC audio, a superior- quality compression
scheme for MPEG audio.

QuickTime 6.0 allows users to mix movie clips as well as create movie libraries. The
date-limited beta, which provided a QT Pro key, will necessitate a new $30 QT Pro
license when installing the full version of QT 6.0. QT 6.0 is available for Mac OS X,
OS 9 and various Windows editions.

Hot on the heels of the QT 6.0 release, Apple also released the final version of
QuickTime Broadcaster 1.0 which provides support for streaming MPEG-4 broadcasting,
playable on any QT 6.0 client machine.
