This releases marks yet another major milestone in the adoption of Apple''s
industry-leading OS
Media 100 has announced immediate availability of its award-winning Media 100 i
digital video system for the Mac OS X platform. Media 100 i Version 8 (V8) is a
powerful OS X-native solution for professional content creators, broadcast designers
and digital media artists that includes a fresh new OS X-compatible interface along
with new visual effects creation and sound design capabilities. V8 now ships with all
Media 100 i configurations including the new Media 100 i/DV priced at only $1,995.
"We''ve re-engineered just about every aspect of Media 100 i to take full advantage of
the breakthrough reliability and performance-enhancing technologies of Mac OS X," said
Mike Savello, vice president of Dual Stream Systems at Media 100. "Additionally, V8
includes many new features requested by our customers that will enhance their creative
workflow."
Media 100 i Version 8 is available immediately through authorized Media 100 resellers
worldwide. All customers who purchased new Media 100 i systems beginning on January 8,
2002 will receive Version 8 at no charge. Media 100 i systems are priced as follows:
Media 100 i/xr is $14,995; Media 100 i/xs is $9,995; Media 100 i/lx is $4,995; Media
100 i/le is $2,995; and the all-new Media 100 i/DV is only $1,995.
Analysis: Media 100 and fleshing out of the Avid product line, not to mention the
dozens if not hundreds of related plug-ins are needed to make X the OS of choice for
video and filmakers. This announcement, as it represents the core around which many
other apps, etc. are built, goes a long toward fulfilling the promise of X.
I think Media''s upgrade policy holds a lesson for Apple.
