Mac cartoonist pens custom toons for all

Looking for a memorable gift? A custom cartoon might be just the thing.
Cartoonist Chuck Downs has embarked on a venture called Hay Doodle Doodle to create
custom cartoons over the Internet. The project offers to pen a memorable scene for
anyone looking for something different to give as a gift. Each print is custom made
and created with a provided description.
To IGM readers, Chuck Downs is best known as the creator of Fitzpatrick the Mac Rat.
Fitz appeared on IGM pages for a number of years, offering a witty, often biting look
at Apple, Microsoft and Mac users. A number of the most memorable strips are available
in an archive at Hay Doodle Doodle''s Web site.
"To me, what makes a cartoon really funny is when it reaches you on a
personal level," said Downs. "Great cartoonists (Bill Watterson, Burke Breathead,
Charles Schultz, etc.) do that masterfully on a daily basis. They create charaters and
dialogue which somehow transcends the strip''s setting and means something to you and
me here in the real world.
"With Hey Doodle Doodle, I hope to achieve the same results through a
different process. Instead of drawing for the mass market, I want to draw
for individuals. That way, the strip is personally funny, and acts as a time
capsule for humourous events gone by."
Downs notes that personalized cartoons can make an ideal gift for family members,
co-workers or friends. The comics aim to capture a memorable moment or event in a way
a picture or gift could never do.
Pricing for the prints range from $20 - $30 for 8x10 and 11x14 sizes. Each cartoon
