Panther Roars After Jaguar
By Remy Davison, Insanely Great Mac
August 21st 2002

10.3 gets a code name change, while 10.2.1 waits in the wings.

ThinkSecret reports on the next revision of Mac OS X, with the upgrade, formerly known
as Pinot, now going by the code name Panther.

Jaguar is not yet officially in the house, but Panther (thought to be OS X 10.3) has
been relabelled, allegedly by Apple''s marketing group. Of course, the OS X.2 box
features a Jaguar pattern on the ''X'', which is perhaps surprising, given Apple''s
traditional aversion to the public usage of code names [remember that the four
different PowerBook G3s all bear ridiculous official names, and Yikes and Sawtooth are
a lot easier to understand than the indecipherable early G4s].

More pressing news at ThinkSecret: the story suggests that 10.2.1 could be as little
as four weeks'' away, with some minor but urgent bugs needing to be addressed quickly.
