Woz and Jobs: iPhone Reunites Dynamic Duo
By Remy Davison, Insanely Great Mac
August 29th 2002
Collaboration on next-generation smart phone may be impetus behind possible Apple-wOZ
joint venture.
If Wireless Week/A> is to be believed, Apple Computer Inc. is about to come full
circle: its two founders may be reunited. This time, the iPhone PDA/cell phone may be
the conduit to do just that.
The article says that Steve Wozniak''s new firm, Wheels of Zeus (wOZ) may collaborate
wiith Jobs and Apple on the much-rumored ''iPhone'', said to combine the attributes of
both PDA and smart phone.
wOZ is working on satellite tracking technology which could conceivably equip
next-generation cell phones with "location-based features", including, possibly, the
ability to find other people in, say, a shopping mall.
Analysis: There''s not a lot here beyond speculation that Apple could use something
Woz and wOZ come up with. If it happens that wOZ does have technology that Apple
wants, it''s possible that Jobs might have first right of refusal, given that they''re
cashed up, and we''re sure Woz would want to see this on the Apple/Mac platform first
(and last).
On the other hand, Woz did all the tech stuff in the old days, and Steve marketed it.
Plus a change...
