Nikon intros $500 4-megapixel Coolpix 4300
By ron carlson, Insanely Great Mac
August 30th 2002
Remember when a good digital camera cost upgrades of $1,000?
Nikon has introduced the cool new Nikon Coolpix 4300, which is built on the
award-winning design of the Coolpix 885, and is the latest digital camera in the
Coolpix line, featuring a 4.0-effective Megapixel CCD and 3x Optical Zoom-Nikkor lens.
The 4300 has a compact design, which makes taking digital pictures "comfortable" and
"intuitive," according to a company press release.
"With the Nikon Coolpix 4300, we have developed the ideal camera for photographers who
depend on unparalleled image quality, portability and ease-of-use, but who also want a
product that''s cool and exciting," said Jerry Grossman, vice president, marketing,
consumer digital products and compact cameras, Nikon. "The Coolpix 4300 truly delivers
everything the amateur photographer is looking for in a digital camera, from its
compact size, sleek silver design and its full range of automatic features to easily
capture great pictures."
The 4300 packs a 4.0-effective megapixel CCD and a 3x Optical Zoom-Nikkor lens with a
zoom range of 38-114mm (35mm equivalent). Weighing only 7.9 ounces without battery and
CompactFlash card, this pocket-sized model can take sharp, clear pictures.
The camera has exposure control settings that accommodate beginner and advanced
photographers, with a fully Automatic Mode and 12-programmed scene modes including:
portrait, party/indoor, night portrait, beach/snow, landscape, sunset, night
landscape, museum, fireworks show, close-up, copy, and back light, as well as a macro
mode.
The Coolpix 4300 will be available next month for $499.95 (SRP). Nikon includes the
ability to upload pics from the camera to their display for "free."
Editor''s note: I purchased a Sony MVC-FD95 camera (2.1 mega-pixel) from Amazon.com in
January 2002 back for under $600 when most everyone else was selling them for $900 or
more. I don''t feel so smug now. Oh, woe is me...
