Quanta''s margins slip 30 percent

The PowerBook and iMac maker has cut prices to remain competitive

According to Digitimes the maker of Apple''s LCD iMacs saw margins plummet by 30 
percent in the first of this year from 13.48 to 9.3 percent. The decline is largely 
attributed to the company''s efforts to drive volume and also to lackluster sales of 
"high margin" products like the iMac.

Sources in Taiwan quoted by the digital daily say it�s not surprising that Analysis: 
This news isn''t surprising as the first-tier PC makers, which Quanta is highly 
dependent, are also suffering. Further, widespread industry consolidation has reduced 
both the number of companies bidding for OEM orders and those placing them.
