Mac-on-Linux now runs Jaguar
By ron carlson, Insanely Great Mac
September 7th 2002
The open source group claims Altivec support, overall snappy performance
Ibrium HB -- the twisted genius(es) behind the Mac-on-Linux (MOL) -- has announced
that it is now possible to run MacOS X, including Jaguar. The new version of MOL also
contains support for little endian (remote) X displays. A couple of performance
improvements have also gone into this release.
MOL runs natively on the processor,so it''s very fast, according to the company.
Moreover, they claim that unlike other mac emulators, MOL can run MacOS 8.6 and later
without a ROM image.
Features of the new version include:
Linux can be booted inside MOL
 Full screen video
 MMU accelereaded X video
 Audio support
Block device support (Ide, Scsi, Zip, Jaz)
ADB & USB support for mouse and keyboard
 Ethernet
 Runs natively - good speed!
 Very compatible
 Idle sleep (8.6 or later)
Session save and restore (temporary unavailable)
 AltiVec support
 Multi-session support
MOL is available for download -- here.
Editor''s note: Wouldn''t it have been sweet if they had created a version of MOL that
would run on cheap-o Intel hardware? Yes, probably a rat''s nest of problems for the
user, but a wake-up call nonetheless.
