Sony Releases 17" LCD Personal Entertainment Display

Plug an Mac, Playstation, DVD into this high-definition LCD.
Sony has released its first Personal Entertainment Display (PED) product, which
connects to Macs, PCs and many other consumer electronics devices.
A display designed for the "digital lifestyle", the PED features a 17" (17.1"
viewable) LCD, and connectivity for Mac, PCs, DV cameras, digital cameras,
Playstations, TV and DVD players/recorders.
The PED handles up to 4 devices connected simultaneously, and supports toggling
between the various devices using a remote control.
"Experiencing a digital lifestyle with so many devices and limited connectivity can be
frustrating," said Stan Glasgow, vice president of display marketing for Sony
Electronics. "So we created a multi-functional flat-panel display that maximizes the
experience, while solving the problem of having to choose between favorite functions,
and instead lets you choose all your favorites all the time."
The PED features 16 million color support, SRS speakers and weighs 14 pounds. It''s
also wall-mountable. It is shipping now and retails at $1,000.
Analysis: This may be a good alternative to an Apple 17" LCD - at a price - for users
who want or need to plug in a range of devices into their monitor. Particularly as
prices of LCDs fall, we can see this having wide consumer appeal.
