Collaboration software comes to X
By ron carlson, Insanely Great Mac
September 24th 2002
Mac users can expand their application development efforts with TogetherSoft''s
ControlCenter
TogetherSoft, the leader in improving the quality and speed, and reducing the cost of
collaborative software development, has announced that support for Mac OS X is now
available in the Together(R) ControlCenter(TM) development environment. Software
developers that utilize Together ControlCenter for Mac OS X have a comprehensive
application development environment that delivers enhanced functionality. Together
ControlCenter integrates the modeling, implementation, testing and deployment of
complex enterprise applications into one environment.
"With ControlCenter, Mac OS X users can expand their development efforts to include
modeling, audits, metrics and more," said Keith Boswell, vice president, marketing and
business development. "Leveraging ControlCenter''s cross-platform support, disparate
development teams on multiple operating systems can efficiently collaborate across
modeling and code development disciplines, improving productivity, reducing
development time and improving the quality of enterprise class applications."
"Mac OS X''s open, UNIX-based architecture with support for industry standards like
Java, Apache, OpenGL, WebDAV and PDF, offers developers the most powerful and flexible
environment for creating robust, feature-rich applications," said Ron Okamoto, vice
president, Worldwide Developer Relations, Apple. "Mac OS X and Together ControlCenter
are optimized for Java development and we''re excited that Mac users have another
great option for their application development needs."
"A growing community of developers are adopting the Mac OS X platform, and support for
the platform is key to business success in a number of industries, including education
and government," said Kathleen Quirk, senior analyst, Application Strategies, Hurwitz
Group. "By offering this support, TogetherSoft can appeal to these developers, provide
a stronger cross-platform solution, and more effectively expand its reach into these
markets."
Development teams worldwide recognize Together ControlCenter for its simultaneous
roundtrip engineering, extended refactorings, robust pattern support, integrated QA
support (including audits and metrics), automatic migration between application
servers and up-to-the-minute documentation generation. Currently available in version
6.0, ControlCenter enables development teams to employ sophisticated and agile
development methodologies such as extreme programming (XP) and feature driven
development (FDD), which are critically important in fast-paced development
environments.
Editor''s note: When the tool builders take notice it''s indicative of broad
underlying trends in the software development community. Hopefully this announcement
is just the "tip of the iceberg" in terms of growing development support for X.
