Apple reduces low-end iMac price
By ron carlson, Insanely Great Mac
October 16th 2002
With the 15-inch line likely nearing its end and disappointing sales
Apple has reduced the price of the entry-level 15-inch LCD iMac by US$100 to $1199.
This model includes a 700MHz G4, GeForce2 MX graphics, 128MB RAM and 40GB HDD, and
users can add peripherals, memory, wireless, etc. via the built-to-order (BTO) option.
In the past, Apple has sometimes restricted the use of BTO on discounted items.
Apple also reduced the price of the SuperDrive-equipped 15-inch model by $100, as we
noted here last week.
As we reported earlier, insider rumors state that the 15-inch LCD iMac line will or
has ceased production this month and that a 19-inch model will be introduced soon in
addition to the 17-inch model already available.
Editor's note: With unit volumes down 14 percent and iMac sales in general
unimpressive, additional discounts may may be available before this model is phased
out -- probably before the end of the year.
