OWC adds 'massive' 200GB external drive

Company expands Mercury Elite Pro storage line to include new 200, 180 and 120 GB
models that all include 8MB caches for superlative performance
Other World Computing (OWC) has introduced three new Mercury Elite Pro external
FireWire storage solutions featuring the industry's largest and fastest hardware. The
new drives break performance and size barriers with an 8MB cache and storage
capacities of 200, 180 and 120 GB.
"These new drives offer unprecedented speed and capacity and are ideal for people who
use their computers to store and edit digital photos or videos, back up internal hard
drives, or work with large, high-quality graphics or multimedia files," said Larry
O'Connor, president of OWC. "With compressed digitized video taking up 13GBs per hour,
storage can go quickly, while transferring the data can cause a headache. However,
with the Mercury Elite Pro storage line, capacity is hardly an issue, and the large
8MB cache ensures the highest possible level of performance."
The Elite Pro hard drives' high-performance 8MB of cache offer significant data
transfer benefits in both burst and sustained write performance when compared to
models with only 2MB of cache. The new models measure 1.5-inches x 9.0-inches x
5.5-inches and weigh less than three pounds. The drives offer convenient plug-and-play
capability, which allows for easy transfer and connection to and from office, home or
off-site presentation computers.
All Mercury Elite Pro drives ship with Intech HD SpeedTools, a FireWire cable,
external power adaptor and a two-year OWC warranty. The drives are compatible with
Apple OS 8.6 and higher.
Pricing for the new Mercury Elite Pro FireWire models is as follows:
� 200GB 7200RPM, 8MB of cache -- $499.99;
� 180GB 7200RPM, 8MB of cache -- $449.99; and
� 120GB 7200RPM, 8MB of cache -- $295.99.
Mercury Elite Pro FireWire drives, available exclusively through OWC, as well as a
variety of FireWire interface cards for desktop and notebook computers.

As I have noted in the past, I have a Mercury Elite enclosure and have used it
extensively without incident. Moreover, it provides fast, stable performance and is
superbly well-suited for storing large quantities of DV.
