Rumor: OS 10.2.2 Coming Soon
By Remy Davison, Insanely Great Mac
November 11th 2002
10.2.2 reportedly available soon - maybe this week. Preloads on new portables
uncertain, but probable.
Rumor site SpyMac reports that Apple Retail Stores have received internal builds of OS
X 10.2.2.
The article says that Retail Store staff have been told to load the updated OS onto
demo Macs on the shop floor. The maintenance update to Jaguar features a variety of
system-wide improvements, bug fixes and enhancements to FTP and printing services.
It is uncertain whether Apple's newly-released PowerBooks and iBooks will feature OS
10.2.2, but it appears likely, particularly as the delivery time for PowerBooks
appears to be fairly lengthy, particularly for DVD-R models.
Analysis: SpyMac says that updates are usually delivered to stores shortly before
release, which is generally the case. It would also make sense for Apple to preload
10.2.2 on the TiBooks in particular, as presumably DVD-R support needs to be added to
the TiBook system.
Keep an eye on Software Update and head down to your local Apple Retail Store to see
if any machines are running 10.2.2 yet.
