Miramar Announces PCMacLAN 9.0
By Remy Davison, Insanely Great Mac
November 12th 2002
Bi-directional printing, file and drive sharing across mixed PC/Mac networks.
Miramar has announced that PCMacLAN for Windows will ship on November 25. PCMacLAN 9.0
features full OS X support.
Miramar says that PCMacLAN is the only solution which allows complete bi-directional
printer sharing for PostScript, non-PostScript and inkjet printers.
PCMacLAN 9.0 also supports long file names, larger partitions and files sizes over
2GB. It also includes utilities such as AKA, PC Migrator and Dataviz's MacOpener.
As previously, PCMacLAN provides full cross-platform file sharing support across
TCP/IP, AppleTalk or Ethernet networks. WAN over the internet and wireless networks
are also supported.
PCMacLAN is offered in both Windows NT/2000/XP and Me/98/95 versions.
Analysis: While OS X - particularly Jaguar - has facilitated ease of networking
between Macs and PCs, accessing printers across mixed networks can still be a
bug-bear. For larger mixed networks, as opposed to peer-to-peer file sharing, PCMacLAN
should help keep Macs in use, instead of being replaced by PCs.
