Bare Bones Software announces BBedit 7.0
By Michael Flaminio, Insanely Great Mac
November 13th 2002

The venerable text editing package adds numerous features and changes, proving that
after its seventh version it still doesn't suck.

BBedit 7.0 is the widely popular text editing utility for the Mac OS. BBedit is
popular among script editors and Web designers, making it a good stand-alone or
supplementary tool. At the top of the list of new features is CVS support, or
Concurrent Versions System controls. CVS allows Mac OS X users to transparently work
with source files from multiple repositories, according to Bare Bones. Another major
feature includes the ability to configure multiple Web sites via preferences, allowing
users to work more easily on files belonging to multiple sites. One other noteworthy
feature includes Quartz text smoothing with Mac OS 10.2.x.

Other features include support for ASP/VBScript and XHTML 1.1 code checking plus a
command to close current HTML tags, making it easier to work with the programs tag
creation feature. A grep pattern search helps to sort and find duplicate text and a
key-bindable glossary helps add frequently used text. 7.0 also includes a paste
previous clipboard command and also new plug-in options which include drag-and-drop
support.

BBedit 7.0 requires CarbonLib 1.5 with Mac OS 9.2 or Mac OS X 10.1.5 and later. The
software package has a suggest retail price of $179 and $49 for an upgrade.
Downloadable version of 7.0 is available now, while boxed versions are expected in 2-3
weeks. For full details of the upgrade and retail locations, please visit Bare Bone
Software's Web site.
