Anticipated WWII Online game ships for Mac

This week Strategy First announced the popular World War II multiplayer game WWII
Online started shipping for the Mac
WWII Online is a massively multiplayer gaming, hosting thousands of players
simultaneously in the same virtual battlefield. The experience promises more than any
other multiplayer game currently available for the Mac. Rather than a dozen or so
players in a single arena, a massively multiplayer game brings all players together in
a single location. The concept for WWII Online is of course, World War II in Europe.
What makes WWII Online interesting is the depth of combat on the virtual battlefield.
The game is actually a mix of first person shooter, roll playing, simulation and
strategy, essentially combining all major game genres. So for example, you can be on
the ground as a foot solder doing FPS or flying above in fighter as a combat sim. Also
the extreme size of the the battlefield is impressive, essential a scale Europe with
accurate terrain modeling.
WWII Online was developed by Cornered Rat Software and brought to the Mac by Strategy
First. It's being distributed in the US by Infogames. Wednesday it was announced that
the game is on its way to store shelves, with places like the Apple Store and
Outpost.com ($39.95) taking pre-orders. At the Apple Store WWII Online retails for
$34.95, with the online service from Playnet.com running $12.99 per month. The retail
package includes a 30 day trial of the online service.
