Apple outlines OS X Web development, MySQL, PHP, Perl

An ADC article takes a look at using MySQL with Mac OS X, offers tips
Mac users looking for a powerful Internet hosting tool need not look any further than
Mac OS X. MySQL, a one of the most popular relational databases available, can easily
be installed and run on Mac OS X. Coupled with PHP, MySQL, OS X can become a powerful
dynamic Web solution. Insanely Great Mac for example uses PHP and MySQL to run nearly
the entire site, although admittedly not on Mac OS X.
An article posted under Apple's developer resources recently has been popularized
detailing using numerous Web technologies with OS X. Widely used open source software
such as MySQL, PHP and Perl can all be installed on Mac OS X. Of particular interest
perhaps is the article on MySQL, where Apple offers advice on how to use and install
the database on Mac OS X. Most importantly, the article offers tips on how to securely
install the database.
The article offers tips for an installation from scratch which is pretty useful. A
widely used alternative, however, is an installation maintained by Marc Liyanage,
which installs MySQL as a Mac OS X package. While additional configuration is needed,
the install is fairly simple, and can be coupled with ADC article's pointers.
