Xnet revs Captain FTP to v2.0
By ron carlson, Insanely Great Mac
November 25th 2002

Support for segmented downloads and snappier performance now available

Xnet has announced the release of Captain FTP 2.0. This whole-number update adds
support for segmented downloads -- which can speed up file transfers dramatically --
quick bookmarking, transfer resume, Unicode conversion for international font support,
a local file browser and audio cues to let you know that transfers have been completed.

Captain FTP 2.0 is shareware and can be used for 14 days before the user must either
pony up ($25) or stop using the app. Register users upgrading are eligible for a
discount, though no info on the reduction is available.

It can be downloaded here.

A freeware version, Captain FTP 1.4, is also available for private/educational use.

Editor's note: I used the freeware version for several months (ie back when few
X-compatible GUI-based FTP clients were available), but regular and unexplained
crashes, as well as dropped connections impelled me to seek out long-time favorite
Fetch.

User comments on the stability and functionality of Captain FTP 2.0 are most welcome.
