Download a Free OS X Book
By Remy Davison, Insanely Great Mac
November 27th 2002
Get the quick-and-dirty lowdown on how your Unix-based Mac really works.
Help yourself to Brendan Rowland's PDF OS X book, medium-level intro to the OS X file
system and Unix. Brendan is from YMUG (Yorkshire UK MUG).
The book also covers the Terminal and file permissions. Designed for new and new-ish
OS X users, you can learn what's under the Aqua interface. With 27 pages, it's a lot
better than anything Apple's Help system will tell you.
Here's the blurb:
"This Guide to Unix and Mac OSX was written in response to requests from Apple Mac
users.
The author, Brendan Rowland, is a Mac user himself and explains everything fluently in
a style that's easy to understand.
This guide is principally for existing Mac Users who are considering upgrading to OSX
(or have recently upgraded) and are confused by the differences between the old and
the new Operating Systems.
However ALL Apple Mac users will find it useful. There's no programming or difficult
stuff. Brendan has simply explained how files and folders are organised by OSX."
Even sesasoned Mac users will get a lot out of this, particularly if most of their
experience is in OS 9 or earlier. And you sure can't complain about the price. It's
available at the The Cool Bookshop/A> and it's a 438K download.
