Judge compares M$ to Tonya Harding
By ron carlson, Insanely Great Mac
December 5th 2002
Redmond 'knee-capped' Sun says the jurist disparagingly
Bloomberg reports that the judge (emphasis added) overseeing an antitrust case against
M$ that the software giant hobbled Sun the way Tonya Harding's supporters
"knee-capped" a rival figure skater before the 1994 Olympics, .
However, the judge also said he doubts that Sun has proven it faces imminent harm in
order to to win a preliminary injunction against the software giant. Sun, which has
asked for at least $1 billion in damages, sued after the US Justice Dept inked a
settled with Redmond that many have called toothless and soft.
According to Bloomberg, US District Judge J. Frederick Motz cited the Harding case in
challenging Microsoft's argument that it shouldn't have to include Sun's Java program
in Windows. Sun said it's entitled to the compensation for harm Microsoft inflicted on
Java.
Motz has made disparaging remarks about Microsoft during three days of hearings,
according to the report.
Editor's note: Even if Sun prevails and is awarded damages, etc, M$ and its
billion-dollar coterie of lawyers will more than likely find a way out of the
predicament. Nevertheless this story still brings a smile to my lips.
