Micromat intros TechTool Pro 4

Here comes 'the next generation of the best-selling problem-solving utility for
Macintosh'
Micromat has announced TechTool Pro 4 (TT4), a completely new version of the
much-loved Mac OS utility kit. Built from the ground up for X, the program has been
completely rewritten in Cocoa, ensuring maximum performance and stability under X. The
program also features a new, easy-to-use aqua interface and streamlined window for
easy navigation.
New features in the new TechTool Pro 4 include:
� SMART (Self Monitoring Analysis And Reporting Technolgy) � Tests/monitoring that
take advantage of the diagnostics built into most modern hard drives.
� eDrive � A feature allows the user to create an invisible emergency volume (along
with a passel of utilities) from your existing drive without the need to reformat the
boot volume
� MultiTesting � With Mac OS X's native mulitasking capability, TechTool Pro 4 can now
run its full battery of tests simultaneously.
� Optimization � TT4 now offers a new optimization feature quickly and safely
defragments the user's drive.
In addition to new features, TT4 also contains updated versions of its time-tested
repair and diagnostic features, such as volume repair and data recovery. It can also
test critical hardware like the CPU, memory, controllers and power supply. The program
can also check other important aspects � like internet connections, network, modem and
even some third-party external peripherals.
Lastly, TT4 can be configured to be constantly on guard and protecting the user's Mac,
and can even automatically notify the owner/administrator by email if any problems are
found. The program also features password administrative options that will prevent
unauthorized users from using the program.
Editor's note: Happy days! Though X is largely bullet proof and worry-free, having a
good toolkit (assuming TT4 hits on most of the marketing spin attributed to it) will
definitely help a lot of people sleep better at night. It will return a sense of
control (yes, there is something I can do) to users that don't want to or simply can't
perform bash incantations on the command line.
