Apple's overall market share inches up
By ron carlson, Insanely Great Mac

HP has regained the 'world's most obscenely-big PC company' title from Dell

Quoting an IDC report News.com states that Apple remains the US' fifth-largest company
and that it's market share ticked up to 3.0 percent from 2.9 in Q4.

"The home PC market improved from a very difficult year in 2002," Charles Smulders,
analyst, Gartner, is quoted as saying. "The professional market showed no sign of a
recovery during the year. Faced with a high degree of uncertainty, corporations more
frequently chose to extend the life of a PC rather than upgrade."

The on-going title bout between HP and Dell saw the former retake the No. 1 title --
however temporarily. News.com states that despite its re-ascension, HP is in long-term
decline and that it's shipments actually decline 9.8 percent worldwide.

Likewise, Apple has seen unit shipments and revenues decline even as has slowly
improved its market standing.

Editor's note: Perhaps Mac users should all move to Guyanna, live communally and cease
concerning themselves with the trivia of an increasingly trivial industry. I'll go if
someone names a building after me... Well, maybe not Guyanna...
