.Mac address book syncing now available

View your Address Book online with .Mac
pple's online .Mac service now support Address Book synchronization through iSync. The
feature was announced at Macworld Expo earlier this month, but just now became active.
The service allows .Mac subscribers to link up their online address book to the data
kept for iSync synchronization. To activate it, users just need to log in, click on
their address book and an option to turn on the synchronization is available. No
additional iSync connections are necessary.
Oddly though, changes that are made to the .Mac address book are not available via
iSync. In other words, you add someone or make a change online, it doesn't sync up
with the rest of your iSync devices.
Analysis:
While it's slightly unnerving to relinquish so much personal information about
yourself and your contacts in the way of a nicely formatted database, hopefully our
blind trust won't be misspent. In the wrong hands all of those thousands and thousands
of uploaded address books could be worth some major coinage. Paranoia aside, the .Mac
address book was the first missing feature I found with iSync, and it's nice to have
around for when I'm not near my computer, PDA or cell phone.
