I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions for how I can diagnose a rare

Is Sendmail doing DNS lookups?

Yes. I have some rules for Reverse DNS and ip blacklisting.

But this was one of my first suspicions, and when I run 'nslookup' I don't get such delays. Also, my home ip is contacting my server constantly, so I would expect DNS to have cached that lookup many times over, but even from home I get a 60-second delay from 'telnet mailhost smtp'

Is it possible that sendmail goes through a different path to DNS than nslookup, and that's where the delay is coming from?

Thanks,

Brian
