Thanks Don,
That's surely it.
Bit sure about this having different buts for the same version number.
Cheers,
Ashley.

In the past, when I move to a new MAc I just copy the drive
partitions from the old machine to the new machine. It has mostly
worked fine.
This time moving from a MBP (late 2007?) to a new i7 MBP I did the
same but the new machine would boot past loading Extensions.mkext.
Old MBP was running latest OS (SL 10.6.3). I tried deleting the
kext cache directory etc. I also reset System Controller and PRAM
- no help. .
Any idea why this my be so?
Only thing I can think of is a) i7 was running later build of SL
and I should have waited for 10.6.4, or b) Little Snitch kext
causing problem.
I did restore smaller partitions to larger new ones but I think I
have done that before without a problem.
Thanks for any suggestions.
Cheers,
Ashley.
PS I don't use the Migration Assistant because I have multiple
partitions and don't store all my a files in my hone directory etc.

Hi Ashley,
We ran into the same problem. A fully updated retail (off the shelf
disc) install of 10.6.3 is 10D578 as of today.
The Mid 2010 MacBook Pro computers ship with a later version of
10.6.3...here's what MacTracker 5.2 shows:
15" MacBook Pro - Mid 2010
MacBookPro6,2
10.6.3(10D2063a)
17" MacBook Pro - Mid 2010
MacBookPro6,1
10.63(10D2094)
13" MacBook Pro - Mid 2010
MacBookPro7,1
10.6.3(10D2125)
Since Apple doesn't provide post-10.6.3 device drivers to the
public, all you can do is start with the OSX install that came on
that computer and migrate your stuff over manually. Or, as you
stated, wait for 10.6.4. Heck, if you have an ADC login... ;)
