The VPN's are actually on Mac OSX clients ( both clients are up to date )

I followed the instructions at http://blog.theilluminatedengineer.com/?p=136 for
setting up a VPN using the existing software on the macs.

I initially did a mac book pro and it works quite well, I can surf with Safari
and I
can VNC and SSH to my local network from my iPad using the VPN server on the
mbp.
Of course this in 3G mode.

I am using a mac mini has a home server and it is always on ( when I am awake).
I have set up a dns server on the mini that is primarily for my home network but
it will call out to the isp servers if a name cannot be locally resolved.

The macbook pro uses the dns server on the mini and also the 8.8.8.8 from google
as a backup.

The mini also uses itself and 8.8.8.8 as dns resolvers.

When I turned on the VPN on the mini I found that it sorta kinda worked.

If I use numeric ips then I can VNC and SSH to the machines on my local network
from the iPad ( always running in 3G mode).

However all of the network aware apps on the iPad fail claiming that the iPad is
not connected to the internet.

I am guessing some kind of DNS name resolution problem.

I am baffled as to why the VPN server on the mini is borked but the VPN server
on the mbp is running like a champ...

The logs show no problems...

Any insight would be appreciated.
