The gain for me is simply the portable home directory. I am currently using two machines, and trying to keep them synced is a chore. Within the next few months I will be using three, and possibly four, machines on a regular basis. Either I can use the Terminal Services in Lion to simply access my main computer, which has some drawbacks of its own, or I can try to juggle the syncing of multiple machines which is not really doable. > My main machines home directory is currently about 84GB and this would not > fly well > with my MacBook Air with a 128GB ssd. I am going to relocate my ~/Sites folder anyway (100GB+), I’ve already relocated iTunes (300GB+) long ago, and I have my iPhoto Libraries living in /Users/Shared (50GB+). The biggest item in my $HOME is Downloads, and that just means I need to clear out all the betas of iOS and 10.7, which I am deleting as I type. > My LAN is not very homogeneous, Macs, Windows, Fedora, several IOS devices, > and a > WD TV Live Media box. Ours is getting a lot bigger. Currently have 4 Macs, 3 iPads, 3 iPhones, 2 iPod Touches, one PC, one AppleTV, one Roku, one Wii, and a couple of networked printers. We will be adding at least three more Macs (but retiring the old iBook G4), another iPhone, and another Apple TV. Possibly a couple more iPads too. -- IT WOULD BE A MILLION TO ONE CHANCE, said Death.
