Access rights repairing

This morning, I was not able anymore to change some system  
prefs...everything was greyed out.
When checking System Preferences.app, I discovered that the group has  
been changed (by whom??) from "admin" to "wheel".
I ran disk utility.app's access right repair... it did not see the  
change and therefore did not repair it.
What's that behaviour?
Mac Mini 1.42 GHz, OSX 5.8, all updates regularly done...
