Maybe lookup the laptop model on MacTracker and see what version it came with. If it was less than 10.6.2 then you just might be able to: - Boot your own (older) Mac off the SL DVD, and install SL to a spare external drive. - Then boot your own (older) Mac off the external drive, and Software Update it to the latest versions of SL, using combo updaters if possible. Hopefully this will give you a SL system that has all it needs to run the laptop. - Then try booting the laptop off the external drive, and see if it will boot and function. - If it does, clone the external drive to the laptop. Obviously first do what you have to with the data on the laptop to preserve it.
