Never, EVER install an OS older than the machine shipped with on a
Mac.
Never.
Until you fix this, there is nothing anyone can do to help you.
I do NOT think it has to do with the question of installing Leo on a
machine delivered with Snow Leo, as it is advocated by some people. It
is rather normal, that machines are delivered with the ACTUAL OS, but
that does NOT imply, that this machines MUST run that OS.
I work since 1979 with Apples, and I usually wait with switching to a
new OS version, until that new version has undegone several updates.
They just simply are not "ripe" before that. As a very well known
case, the change from OS 9 to OS 10.0 or 10.1 was widely not
advocated, those systems were not very ripe. So I jumped from OS 9
directly to OS 10.3.x, but all machines, I have bought inbetween and
were delivered with OS 10.xxxx were able to run under OS 9.x (no, not
Classic) and older (indeed as from 7.1 to 9.2).
It's true: sometimes, Apple DOES an important change, because some
newer cpu's do not support older command sets (notably with the change
from one chip producer to another (like from motorola to IBM's risc,
from risc to intel's x86), which forces Apple to provide a software
workaround to make all the software run on the new chips (examples:
Classic, Rosetta). But Apple does not produce new Mini's with each and
every new OS update it releases.
So, be relax and believe me: you can run the new mini with Leo 10.5.5
or newer. I just do it, and this mail is sent to you by such a
thing :-).
And if this is not convincing you, then I sent you to read Apples
manual which is shipped with that mini ad which says, that the system
requirements are 10.5.5 and up......
