Microsoft is down to about 5% of the smartphone market, down from just under 10% a year ago. The Mac is not aimed at the lowest end of the market. Just as a premium car maker usually not makes extremely cheap car models. Premium is not just price but involves quality. In the more expensive segments Apple offers often make sense. Sometimes I'm thinking: why did we got rich (on avarage) when I see people striving to get the cheapest so often. I understand that it is a question about interest and priorities apart from just saving a few (your currency), but there are a bit to much lousy stuff that leave stores today imo. But that's just my personal opinion. I tend to rather have a few things of high quality than every little thing that you can get and have the low price on the price tags as the best reason I bought it in the first place. Apple's Mac (all of them) is targeted to me is the correct answer I believe ;) Apple had a publicly stated sales goal with the iPhone when it was released. 1% of the smartphone market share. The have about 14% today and it is slowly (it has slowed down) rising. These figures must have been beyond dreams even for the most optimistic sales person You see that the mobile phone market is diveded in smart phones and the, ehh stupid ones. This is not the case when discussing computers. We have laptops, netbooks, desktop, workstations, servers etcetera. We often compare sales figures over a broder spectra of different kinds. So bare in mind, Apple compete only with premium and the market is full of low end buyers and Microsoft aims for all. If this got you on a somewhat good mood I might spoil it now but the truth is MS resently made their best Q2 or perhaps it was Q3 ever. The company is fenomenal in making profit. To claim anything else is not honest! I don't mean to present any of my personal opinions about MS here. I refeer to the original poster's whishes and opinions about MS. What I can say that is more politically easy going is that all markets benefit from a healthy competition and ideally a market constitutes of a few or more equals doing their utter most to gain one more customer from the competitors!_______________________________________________ MacOSX-talk mailing list [email protected] http://www.omnigroup.com/mailman/listinfo/macosx-talk
