I'm still running an older iMac G4 (the lamp) with 10.5.8. I use it
just for Skype and radioShark, and for nothing else. Access through
screen sharing from a Intel Mini, also 10.5.8
Today, while screensharing still worked, some utilities (ie.Batchmod)
refused to start. So I had DiskUtility running acces rights repair.
Examining the log afterwards, it revealed that the values for owner
and group were (instead 0) over 510'000 (yes: over
fivehundredandtenthousend) for all items in usr/share/man and all
shells (bin/csh, bin/tcsh, bin/zsh...), and all access rights were r--
r--r--. Moreover, NOT ONE value was like the other...
I do not use shells, I did not add third party software since a good
time, in fact I did nothing special than before, with one exception: I
activated the Apache server.
Can that be the cause of such an abnormality?
Did somebody else observe a similar behaviour?
